For the past 7 years I have been learning the art of Mbira playing, a traditional Zimbabwean instrument, which has metal keys placed onto a wooden sound board.
I have had the privilege of playing with and getting to know many notable mbira musicians -
Garikaye Tirikoti and Tirikoti arts, Chartwell Dutiro, Linos Wengara, Forward Kwenda,Silvester and James Mujuru, William Chitauro, plus many more lesser know mbira players but equally contributing to my experience of Mbira and Mbira culture.
As well as bringing back sculpture, I have also brought back 15 mbira for sale, 4 of which are from Tirikoti Arts, and 3 from The Mujuru Brothers. I have 2 Nyunga Nyunga, (a different style of mbria) and a number of traditional cultural items for sale as well, including bute made by me, the Chinyere Family, Chiwa and Ambuya Nzou, from Domboshava.
