AGGRIPA TIRIGU
I have been living at Tengenenge for 12 years, I’m in the
upcoming generation of sculptors.
Sculpture is a big challenge for me, and it is my calling to
be a sculptor. I do it to express how I experience life. And its my life job.
I like carving big sculptures, which I imagine being put in
public places, where people gather. I love piercing the stone, putting holes
through it. This gives me great satisfaction. Once I have carved a hole through
the sculpture it is done.
I have been developing my own unique distinctive style, I
like to leave the original quality of the stone showing, with rough patches, so
that the natural beauty of it can be seen. I work a lot with the theme of
water. Water is life. I represent the movement of water in one sculpture. I
also like to show how the life of plants grow. Representing all the stages of
one sculpture in one stone.
My sculptures all connect to my experiences I have in life. I
like to live an adventurous life. My experiences of adventure is stimulated by
the landscape and the environment. Both the landscape and the environment feed
into my experience and in doing so, make a connection to the stone that I am
carving. At times while I am carving I feel one with the sculpture.
